Dear ,
It is difficult to believe our school year is a little more than halfway complete! Even with another semester ahead of us, HBHA staff and faculty are already planning for our 2017-18 school year.

In the past two weeks, we hosted two very successful Taste of Kindergarten events, where our incredible team welcomed more than 40 families to HBHA Kindergarten! A big thanks to Admissions Director Tamara Lawson Schuster, Lower School Principal Dr. Jessica Kyanka-Maggart, Head of Jewish Studies Rabbi Avi Weinstein, and our Kindergarten team, Nicole Hollingsworth, Nira Solomon, Chanie Sosover and Kathy Kampfer for their work in making a great first impression as new families explore our school. Tours are still going on at HBHA. If you know someone who is interested in learning more about our school, they may contact Tamara Lawson Schuster at tschuster@hbha.edu.

In other news, our Civic Service Awards Steering Committee is gearing up for a very special celebration March 26, 2017, at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Jonathan Kemper and Crosby Kemper III will receive the Civic Service Award on behalf of the Kansas City Public Library, and our program book will pay tribute to long-time HBHA supporter, Seymour Krinsky. It is our small way of saying thank you to Seymour for all that he does for our school and our community. I am also pleased to announce this year's John Weil Uhlmann Young Leadership Award winner, HBHA parent Andrea Levitan, for her work and leadership in our school and our community. I look forward to seeing you at our celebration!

Shabbat Shalom,
Howard Haas

Community Service @ HBHA
Our friends and families know HBHA is about more than academics. We work to develop the whole child, which includes teaching them the importance of giving back to our community - whether through hands-on experiences, or by setting a good example for our children.

Upcoming community service events include:
HBHA@Harvesters: 60 HBHA students and parents will serve Harvesters Food Bank this Monday in honor of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service
HBHA Blood Drive: Adults (and students ages 16+) can give the gift of life at our Blood Drive, Jan. 20, 10am-2:30pm in the Social Hall. Register at esavealife.org, sponsor code: HYMANBRND to register.
CSA Invitation Stuffing Party: Volunteers are welcome to join us January 25 to help stuff invitations for our upcoming Civic Service Award Celebration! Details below in Development Corner.

Andrea Levitan Honored
The John Weil Uhlmann Young Leadership Award goes to HBHA parent volunteer Andrea Levitan at this year’s CSA! Andrea, a licensed professional counselor and the Director of Community Engagement for the Kansas City Kollel, is an active volunteer in our community and at HBHA. Her children, Elia and Riley have attended HBHA since kindergarten. Her proud parents are HBHA supporters Sharon and Howard Levitan. Congratulate Andrea with a personal ad in our CSA program book!

Let’s Thank Seymour Krinsky
We are proud to announce that this year’s CSA program book is a tribute to long-time supporter Seymour Krinsky. HBHA has always been one of Seymour’s favorite causes. He has generously donated to the school over many years, and has been instrumental in procuring a number of legacy donations, including the Herb Adler and Christa Louis funds, to name a few. Dedicating the program book to him is our way of saying “todah rabah” for his invaluable friendship and hard work. Please buy a personal ad in honor of Seymour today!
