The Resource Department has one resource teacher serving students in Kindergarten through grade 5 who have demonstrated academic special needs. The Resource Department works collaboratively with administrators, teachers and parents to design, implement and review Individual Action Plans for students qualifying for resource services. The resource teacher provides instruction to students both in the Resource Room and in the general education setting as outlined by the students’ Individual Action Plans.
The Resource Department participates in school teams such as the Care Team. This team evaluates students who are struggling in their academic environment, gathers information about the student’s challenges and then creates a plan with interventions that directly address those challenges.
The Resource Department also assists in problem solving with general education teachers who instruct students with disabilities, helping the teachers adapt and modify assignments and assessments to accommodate the unique abilities and needs of students with disabilities.
Lastly, the Resource Department provides staff development opportunities regarding learning strategies (reading, writing, study skills, etc.) and accommodations and modifications to curriculum. The Director of Student Services serves as the resource coordinator for special needs students in grades 6–12.
