Middle School

The Middle School serves students in grades 6, 7 and 8 and recognizes the importance of fostering students through this critical phase of development. Personal and intellectual growth are the focus of the Middle School program. Students are challenged to meet high standards academically, spiritually and ethically. A caring and nurturing staff encourages creativity and inquiry as students weave through their middle years on their journey to Upper School. Faculty recognizes that students need individual attention and direction during this phase of development. Daily prayer services start each school day.  Students choose to participate in egalitarian or orthodox minyans (groups) based on their own denomination and family practice.

Students participate in curriculum studies including English, Social Studies, Science, Mathematics, Physical Education, Art Education, Hebrew Language and Jewish Studies.  Students also have the opportunity to participate in electives in several areas of study. Elective course offerings change from year to year in an effort to provide various opportunities to all Middle School students. Students can also explore leadership roles through Student Council, intramural sports, drama, the Krigel Wellness Program, and grade-level class trips in the spring.

Students are assessed using the Measure of Academic Program (MAP) test in the fall and spring. HBHA Middle School students regularly score 20-40 percentile points above the national norm in both reading and math. Testing data is used to monitor academic progress and determine the need for intervention or enrichment.

The Middle School seeks to develop students intellectually, spiritually and personally.  We do this within the context of Jewish values, community spirit, and academic and extracurricular programming. By the time students move on to the Upper School, they have developed into critical thinkers, responsible citizens and compassionate individuals.
