Financial Assistance Policy
  1. Financial assistance awards may not exceed the budgeted amount approved by the Board of Trustees in any single academic year.
  2. HBHA maintains a single budget for the financial assistance program (includes new and renewing students). A separately funded budget does not exist for financial assistance emergencies that occur during the academic year.
  3. All financial assistance awards are for one academic year. Applicants must reapply each academic year.
  4. Supplemental costs such as book fees are not included in financial assistance award.
  5. HBHA, in awarding financial assistance, is not bound to recognize any divorce decree specifying a parent’s responsibility for educational expenses. Likewise, HBHA cannot be bound by the assertion that one parent has disclaimed responsibility for the student.
  6. If it is determined that information provided to the school by the family is materially inaccurate or misleading, HBHA reserves the right to rescind the financial assistance at any time. Additionally, if the family’s financial situation changes, HBHA reserves the right to review the family’s financial assistance award.
  7. Recipients of financial assistance are expected to meet minimum academic standards and abide by policies stated in the Parent/Student Handbook.
  8. All families who accept the financial assistance award will be required to sign up for electronic payments via FACTS.
  9. Returning families may apply for financial assistance only when their account is current. Contact the HBHA Business Office to make arrangements.

Financial Assistance FAQs

List of 8 frequently asked questions.

  • I am not sure if our family will qualify for financial assistance. Is it worth applying?

Yes. We encourage you to apply if need-based financial assistance will make HBHA enrollment possible for your child.
  • I may want to apply for an extension for my most recent year taxes. Can I do this and receive financial assistance?

Yes. You may receive a tentative award subject to submission of all tax forms and schedules to the business office.
  • Will I need to re-apply for financial assistance each year?

Yes, all awards are for one academic year only.
  • Do I have to apply for financial assistance before I know my child has been admitted?

No, we encourage applicants to participate in admissions and financial assistance processes concurrently.
  • Is there any financial assistance available for new families applying for admission after the published deadlines?

Yes. We encourage you to apply if need-based financial assistance will make HBHA enrollment possible for your child.
  • If my application is incomplete, how will I be notified?

HBHA’s business office will notify you via email if your financial assistance application is incomplete. Therefore, all applicants must provide email contact information. Applications will not be processed until the completed documents are provided. A checklist of all required documents is included in the Financial Assistance Application packet.
  • What happens if the parents are divorced or separated?

HBHA believes that parents have an obligation to pay for the educational expenses of their children to the extent that they are able. The Financial Assistance Committee will consider the assets of both parents before making any award, and cannot be bound by the assertion that one parent has disclaimed legally or otherwise any responsibility for educational expenses. Therefore, it is necessary that both parents and their current spouses, if any, fill out a separate Financial Assistance Application.
