Our elementary teacher aide position is a unique opportunity to join a special community of educators. Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy, in Overland Park, Kansas, is a teacher-centered school that affords teachers the freedom to be creative and innovative, with support and guidance from their administrators. Teacher aides are an integral part of the school and are beloved by the HBHA families. We are seeking a Physical Education Teacher to join our team of excellent and passionate educators. The PE Teacher will collaborate with classroom teachers, student services, and other specialists on key skills, student growth, and classroom needs and report directly to the Lower School/Middle School Principal. This is a part-time position serving students from K-8.

Responsibilities

  • Teach knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual, or team sports.
  • Work cooperatively with other teachers in planning and implementing a balanced physical education program.
  • Analyze, demonstrate, and explain basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.
  • Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials as needed for a successful, organized class.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas.
  • Provide appropriate safety instruction and conduct safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students.
  • Evaluate each student’s growth in physical skills, knowledge, and contribution to team sports.
  • Maintain control of storage and use of school property.
  • Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve learning, health, and attitude problems.

Qualifications

  • Education degree with an emphasis in physical education
  • Masters preferred

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Jewish Studies Teacher/Administrator. This pivotal role will provide visionary leadership and administrative oversight, ensuring continued excellence and alignment with HBHA’s mission and values.

Position Summary:

The Jewish Studies Teacher/Administrator will teach no less than 50% of the day with a focus on the strategic direction, implementation, and evaluation of the curriculum for the Orthodox program within our Jewish Studies department (called “Oren”). The Oren program aligns to Modern Orthodox hashkafa and is inclusive of families with a range of practices from those outside of Orthodoxy to Chabad. This individual will work collaboratively with faculty, students, parents, and community members to ensure continued growth and success. This role is multifaceted and involves overseeing curriculum development, scheduling, and various administrative duties to ensure a cohesive educational environment. This candidate must possess strong communication and collaborative skills, a shared vision for a Jewish community day school, and a love for students and teaching. They will be a key member of the school's leadership team, contributing to the overall vision and direction of HBHA. The ideal candidate has experience working in a diverse Jewish environment. This position reports directly to the Head of School.

Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Leadership:
    • Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of Oren curriculum in the Lower School, ensuring sensitivity to the full spectrum of Orthodox Jewish values and academic excellence with the oversight of the head of Judaic Studies.
    • Promote innovative teaching methodologies and resources to enhance student engagement and learning.
    • Ensure the curriculum fosters a deep connection to and love of Israel.
  • Faculty Management:
    • In conjunction with the Leadership Team, provide professional development opportunities to enhance faculty expertise and pedagogical skills.
    • Foster a collaborative and supportive faculty environment.
  • Student Support:
    • Create and maintain a positive and supportive learning environment that values and celebrates high excellence, respect, and diversity.
    • Provide guidance and support to students in their academic and spiritual growth.
    • Promote a culture of selflessness and community service.
  • Administrative Oversight:
    • Manage a curriculum budget in partnership with the Oren Coordinator
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant policies and regulations.
    • Develop and implement strategies for the long-term sustainability and viability of the Oren program at HBHA.
    • Ensure that all halakhic aspects of the Oren program are implemented in accordance with the guidance of the Oren Posek, maintaining consistency and alignment with the program’s established halakhic framework.
  • Community Engagement:
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with parents, community members, lay and professional leaders.
    • Communicate effectively with stakeholders about HBHA’s goals, progress, and achievements.
    • Celebrate and enhance Jewish pride within the HBHA Community.

  • Leadership and Integrity:

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Jewish Studies, Education, or a related field. Orthodox smicha preferred.
  • Significant experience in Orthodox Jewish education and administration.
  • Strong knowledge of Orthodox tradition, and culture.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

We are seeking a part-time (20 hours) School Nurse to serve Kindergarten through twelfth-grade students. The School Nurse will be a resource for the athletics department, the faculty, the families, and the students. The School Nurse will collaborate with Student Services on medical 504 Plans, families regarding medical needs, and teachers regarding student needs that may impact learning and development. The Nurse will maintain confidentiality, manage the collection of medications, distribute personal medications, plan for medical needs within athletic trips and school trips, and collaboratively teach and coordinate health lessons.

A qualified candidate will show professionalism in maintaining confidentiality and integrating health and well-being (physical and emotional) learning into the curriculum, and will be skilled in open communication with families and teachers in the best interest of the whole child. This position reports directly to the kindergarten through eighth-grade Principal.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with parents regarding the medical needs of the students
  • Work as a member of the teaching team with fellow teachers, administrators, and support staff
  • Collaborate with Sunflower House and MOCSA for programming needs and outside speakers
  • Secure grant funding for additional programming
  • Teach CPR skills in eighth-grade Health and PE
  • Write and implement medical 504 plans

Qualifications

  • Registered Nursing degree, Masters preferred 
  • Current Kansas Nursing license
  • CPR and AED-certified
  • Experience working with children and adults in a professional setting

  • Writing weekly newsletters with pictures from classroom activities

  • Completing report cards each quarter with individual comments for each student

Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy welcomes your application for the Substitute Teacher position at our K-12 Jewish Day School, located in Overland Park, Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City, Missouri. HBHA is a community day school with two separate Jewish Studies options: Oren, for families looking for an Orthodox approach to education, and Erez, which is an egalitarian, pluralistic approach to Jewish education.
