Substitute Teacher - K-12

Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy welcomes your application for the Substitute Teacher position at our K-12 Jewish Day School, located in Overland Park, Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City, Missouri. HBHA is a community day school with two separate Jewish Studies tracks: Matimidim, for families looking for an Orthodox approach to education, and Magshimim, which is an egalitarian, pluralistic approach to Jewish education.

Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy is seeking a substitute teacher to fill in for teachers who are not able to teach their classes. The substitute teacher will arrive on time, follow modesty and professional dress, and establish rapport with the students and fellow staff members.

Ideal candidates will:

  • have a background in teaching
  • have a degree in education
  • share successful experiences working with students
  • be cordial and responsible

Job Responsibilities

  • follow provided lesson plans
  • have behavior/classroom management skills and be able to perform duties such as lunch duty, hallway duty, room cleaning, and desk moving (as needed for classroom structure/lesson plan)

HBHA substitute teachers make an hourly wage of $12/hour.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

Physical demands include dexterity for office machine/supply operation, including but not limited to computers, telephones, copy machines, facsimiles, and printers. Stooping, bending, reaching for files or supplies, and sitting or standing for extended periods is common.

Classroom Teacher of General Studies - Kindergarten

Lower School Teacher’s Aide

HBHA’s elementary teacher’s aide position is a unique opportunity to join a special community of educators. Teacher’s aides are an integral part of the school and are beloved by the HBHA families. HBHA teacher’s aides are asked to support teachers and students in a variety of capacities, including but not limited to individual student support, small group support, photocopying, laminating, and bulletin board creation. K-12 PE Teacher

Our physical education teaching position is a unique opportunity to join a special community of educators, students, and families. HBHA is a school that seeks to empower teachers to bring their full selves to work, rather than asking them to simply read a lesson plan. HBHA is truly an exceptional work environment, and as such we are seeking an exceptional physical education teacher to span grades Kindergarten thru 12.

Overall Job Description/Responsibilities:

  • Teaches K-5 Physical Education
  • Offers and teaches Middle School Physical Education Electives to grades 6-8
  • Offers and teaches Upper School Electives to grades 9-12
  • Teaches semester long 8th grade Health and PE class
  • Acts as a mentor in 7th grade

Essential Duties:

  • Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual or team sports
  • Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning and implementing a balanced physical education program.
  • Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.
  • Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials as need for a successful, organized class
  • Develops positive relationships with students, families, and faculty members
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas.
  • Moves equipment and cares for shared gym space
  • Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students.
  • Evaluates each student’s growth in physical skills, knowledge and contribution in team sports
  • Maintains control of storage and use of school property
  • Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve learning, health, and attitude problems
