Position: Lower School General Studies Teacher

Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy, Kansas City’s only K-12 Jewish community day school, seeks to hire an enthusiastic educator to serve as a Lower School General Studies Teacher

The successful candidate will: 

  • have a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) and teaching background and a genuine interest in working with Lower School students
  • have experience teaching at the Elementary Level 
  • demonstrate an innovative and energetic approach to teaching
  • demonstrate knowledge of 21st Century skills, differentiated instruction, modeling and project-based learning
  • have pedagogical experience with a wide variety of technology formats, platforms and applications
  • be committed to professional growth and professional sharing

Jewish Studies Principal

Position: Jewish Studies Principal

Reports to: Head of School

We are seeking a candidate who possesses:

  • Extensive knowledge of Judaism with the ability to teach Torah and Talmud.
  • A vision for (and ability to) further enhance HBHA's joyful Jewish life at school.
  • The ability to ensure the highest quality of programming in Jewish life that also respects the pluralistic nature of our community; includes working with a diverse student, faculty, and parent body, representing all denominations of Judaism.
  • Ability to build bridges and advocate for the needs of families and students from all branches of Judaism.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working in Jewish Day Schools (includes 3-5 years teaching and/or in administrative role).
  • A Masters degree in Education and knowledge of current best practices in education.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Connect and deepen Jewish engagement and learning across the spectrum of Jewish practices and beliefs.
  • Inspire and engage students, faculty and staff to find meaning and joy in the study and practice of Judaism.
  • Work collaboratively with HBHA's General Studies principals to ensure that approaches to teaching and learning are consistent across departments; manage ongoing delivery of curriculum and programming.
  • Lead a strategic visioning process to review the current approach to curriculum and programming.
  • Manage the Director of Jewish Life, which oversees all Jewish programming.
  • Recruit, manage and retain excellent Jewish Studies and Hebrew faculty; serve as a resource for teachers, focusing on professional development and continued growth.
  • Travel overseas to Israel/Europe each every other year with HBHA students.
  • Communicate effectively and collaboratively.
  • Serve as the Rav Bet Sefer, a religious and spiritual guide for the HBHA community; offer Divrei Torah for community events.
  • Help articulate and implement policy decisions related to Jewish life.
  • Teach classes/tutor students as identified by Head of School.

Gifted Education Teacher

Position: Lower School Gifted Education Teacher

Reports to: Principal

Job Goals: To meet the academic and social/emotional needs of gifted learners and high achievers by providing advanced and differentiated curriculum, enrichment units, instruction in process skills, and effective growth experiences as well as support their teachers

The successful candidate will:

· have a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s prefered) and certification in gifted education
· have a genuine interest in working with Lower School students
· have experience teaching gifted and talented at the Elementary Level (K-5)
· Work collaboratively with classroom teachers and grade level teams to provide push-in as well as pull-out services to students needing higher level differentiation
· demonstrate an innovative and energetic approach to teaching
· demonstrate knowledge of 21st Century skills, differentiated instruction, modeling and project-based learning

K-12 Music Teacher

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a strong background in music with knowledge in both secular and Jewish music
  • Have experience teaching music to school-aged students
  • Provide students with an education in Jewish and secular Studies songs as well as music theory
  • Have a strong knowledge base of teaching instruments such as ukuleles, percussion instruments and woodwinds, including but not limited to the recorder, trombone, flute, and clarinet
  • Have knowledge and/or experience in teaching choral music and leading a choir
  • Have strong classroom management strategies and excellent communication skills
  • Inspire a love of music that will continue through Middle and Upper School
  • Be committed to professional growth and professional sharing
  • Work collaboratively with members of the grade level team as well as administration, students, and families

Qualifications: Education and/or Music degree, teaching license preferred, experience teaching music to school-aged students.
