Celebrations & Student Families
One highlight of the HBHA experience is our Student Family program. The program groups students from Kindergarten to 12th Grade. Each Student Family group contains one to two students per grade. Each family is named after an Israeli city, and students stay with their Student Family throughout their years at HBHA. One of the most incredible experiences is watching these students grow from young learners to Student Family leaders during their Middle and Upper School years. Each Student Family has faculty advisers.
Student Families meet throughout the year during these school-wide celebrations:
Taste of Shabbat
The entire school gathers in HBHA’s social hall on Friday mornings for this program, where each Student Family sits together, recites blessings, discusses the weekly parsha, and then sings and dances to Shabbat music. This weekly time together is a wonderful way for Student Family members to connect and bond with each other during this experiential Jewish observance.
Holidays
Student Families also meet for Jewish and secular holidays throughout the year. Whether a learning activity or a school-wide celebration, each family gets to enjoy time together while learning and engaging in Jewish life at HBHA. The learning activities are created by the Upper School Student Council and then taught and led by the other Upper School students with assistance from the family's faculty advisers. Family holiday programs have included Rosh Hashanah, Sukkot, Thanksgiving, Chanukah, Tu B’shvat, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Purim, Pesach, and Yom Ha’atzmaut.
