Financial Assistance Pilot Program: Multi-Year Program

At HBHA, we value the importance of need-based tuition assistance in building and sustaining our academic community where approximately 55% of our students receive some amount of tuition assistance to support their education. As a community Jewish day school, we take pride in our commitment to partner to provide an HBHA education to students across our Greater Kansas City Jewish community.

You can count on an excellent education for your student(s) at HBHA. And now, with our new multi-year financial assistance model, families who qualify can also count on stability and predictability with their annual financial assistance.

Our new model allows families to apply for a multi-year financial assistance award.* This means your student will receive the same financial assistance award, year after year. This new system adds predictability and stability for students’ tuition, year over year.

We are piloting this new model, which is available to current 10th & 11th-grade families in the 2024-25 school year. We hope to expand this multi-year assistance option to a larger pool of students in the future.

How It Works

During our pilot program, families of current 10th & 11th-grade students who are applying for financial assistance for the 2024-2025 school year will follow HBHA’s standard financial assistance application process. The difference will be in the result, when students are granted a multi-year financial assistance award.*

  1. Step-by-Step Instructions for Participating Families
Open the HBHA financial assistance application link you will receive via email in early February; or find the application online.
***You do not need to complete a separate application to participate in the pilot program.
  2. Click on the checkbox in the application that states “I wish to participate in the multi-year pilot program.”
  3. Your current 10th or 11th-grade students will be added to the multi-year financial assistance application pool.
  4. You will be notified of your award in the same timeline as the standard financial assistance process.

Important note: To be eligible for the award, a complete financial assistance application must be submitted by the Feb. 29, 2024 deadline.

This pilot program is only open to current 10th & 11th-grade students in the 2024-25 school year.

Why the new system?
HBHA is considering new financial assistance models to enhance our partnership with our families, and provide optimum support for our students and our school. We are taking a careful, measured approach to rolling out a new financial assistance system to ensure it will best meet the needs of our school community. We are testing a multi-year financial assistance award system with a small segment of our school’s population. Our goal is to obtain feedback, and tweak and enhance the process throughout our pilot test, so we can ultimately phase it in for all students.

FAQs

Our goal is to provide predictability for our families and for HBHA to create a win-win for all! Your student’s predictable financial assistance award can help you plan for the coming years.

If you are offered a financial assistance award, and it is accepted. HBHA will award you the same annual assistance for next year and all following years for your current 10th and/or 11th-grade student.

If your family’s circumstances change between now and next year’s financial assistance timeline, you can still reapply next year for a different level of assistance.

Once the process is complete, we may reach out to multi-award recipient families for feedback. Your input will help us assess this pilot program and determine whether we will expand this multi-year assistance option to a larger pool of students in the future.

The timeline for multi-year awards is the same as the standard financial assistance process. View HBHA’s financial assistance timeline for specific dates and deadlines.

For our 2024-25 financial assistance process, the multi-year award is available to current 10th & 11th-grade students only.

The following factors will be used to determine eligibility for the multi-year financial assistance program:

  1. Grade eligibility: We are currently piloting this financial assistance model for current (2023-24) 10th & 11th-grade students and, based on program results and family feedback once the process is complete, we hope to expand this multi-year assistance option to a larger pool of students in the future.
  2. Needs-based eligibility: All of HBHA’s financial assistance awards are needs-based. This applies to one-year and multi-year awards.
  3. Deadline eligibility: Families participating in the multi-year financial assistance pilot program must submit their completed financial assistance application on or before the deadline date to be eligible for the program.

For our 2024-25 financial assistance process, the multi-year award is available to current 10th & 11th grade students only.

If you have students in other grades, your 2024-25 financial assistance application will be valid only for that school year (for the students not rising to 11th and 12th grade). You will need to reapply for any other student’s financial assistance next year.

The following factors will be used to determine eligibility for the multi-year financial assistance program:

  1. Grade eligibility: We are currently testing this system for current (2023-24) 10th & 11th-grade students and, based on program results and family feedback once the process is complete, we hope to expand this multi-year assistance option to a larger pool of students in the future.

One thing we know for sure: Change is inevitable. If your family’s situation changes, HBHA can help:

  • If your family receives a multi-year award for your 10th/11th-grade student in 2024-25 and needs additional assistance in the following years, you may reapply for additional assistance.
  • If you do not apply for the multi-year award this year, but find you need financial assistance in the future, you may apply at that time.
  • If your family no longer needs the assistance given in a multi-year award, please let us know. We will reallocate those financial assistance dollars to another student in need.
  • All of HBHA’s financial assistance awards are needs-based. This applies to one-year and multi-year awards.
  • All financial information regarding individual students and their families is confidential.
  • All current financial assistance policies are applicable to recipients of the multi-year award.

*Qualifying applicants are students who will be in 11th or 12th grade for the 2024-25 school year. HBHA operates on a needs-based financial assistance system. Only students who are eligible will receive a financial assistance award.
